The King of Longevity. Buckwheat of Gurholt holds the tittle of an AHCA Impact Sire. Meaning he has produced a minimum of 4 impact dams, which are cows that have proven their longevity over time by producing their first calf by 3 years, 4 months of age, and have had at least 4 calves within a 380 day interval. Elite Impact dams have done this, AND have above average WW (Weaning Weight) ratio's for the breed. Buckwheat has sired three Elite Impact Dams, and Three Impact Dams. Making him one of the highest ranking bulls in the breed to sire so many females carrying this tittle. 

Buckwheat is sired by Summit Ranch Hugo (AI), a Rioghail of Balmoral/Kiyiwana bred bull. on the bottom side of his pedigree are the great bulls of DH Montgomery. "Who produced calves until he was 12. His sire was the 1992 NWSS Grand Champion Bull, DH White Gold. Montgomery's dam, Drover Hill's Lear-Ghaoth, produced her last registered calf at 19yrs old." (Source) 

Buckwheat was used extensively at Schon Boden Farms - one of the oldest highland fold's in the Unites States that is still producing cattle. Buckwheat is as relevant now as he was in his hay day. He clearly produces animals with longevity, length, and loads of maternal power. His claves are growthy with good hip sets and great feet. Some of his more notable daughters are Schon Boden's Lydia (D) ** and Schon Boden's Josie (D) *. Josie, an impact dam, produced calves until she was 17 years old and Lydia is currently 15, and still producing calves with her Elite Impact Dam Status.
